The Arkansas State Red Wolves maintain their seeding in the Sun Belt with a win at South Alabama.
Arkansas State generally leans on their better then average offense to put games in the win column and why not when this unit is putting up almost 77 points. The Red Wolves have been on a bit of a hot streak with wins in three of four after a 72-58 decision over visiting Western Kentucky on Monday. The defense made things easier with 37% shooting given up while forcing 17 turnovers which made their own 39% shooting a winner when combined with 12 more free throws. Melvin Johnson III led all scorers with 22 points followed by Kendrick Washington and Cameron Golden with eleven and nine points.

South Alabama had some high hopes heading in to the 2013-14 campaign but too much talent was lost which is reflected in their record. The scoring and defense has been all over the map instead of on the same page which has led to defeats in eight of nine. The defense let the Jaguars down in 79-74 loss at Troy with 46% accuracy shooting given up that combined with a 20-8 advantage at the charity stripe which offset their own 48% shooting. Leading scorer Augustine Rubit posted 25 points and snared six boards while Barrington Stevens III and Ken Williams added 13 points apiece with Stevens handing out six helpers.
Arkansas State has been winning and South Alabama has been struggling which had me looking at the Red Wolves right off the bat. The spread is low which has me scratching my head but winning on the road isn't easy. I'll cautiously back the visitors...
