The Northern Illinois Huskies head to James A. Rhodes Arena to face the Northern Illinois Huskies.
Northern Illinois is definitely better then we have seen in prior years although we are not talking win the conference better. The Huskies are in a seventh place tie at 5-6 and have an opportunity to move up the rankings but the time is now to make a move. NIU is getting the job done at the moment with wins in three of four following an 88-63 rout of Central Michigan on Wednesday. Nearly 58% shooting got the job done along with near perfect 24-28 foul shooting. Darrell Bowie led the scoring with 19 points and eight pulls with Aaric Armstead adding 17 points and eight yanks followed by Jordan Threloff and Daveon Balls netting 14 and eleven points.

I know Akron might not be as strong as we've seen from them in the past but that only makes the 2013-14 campaign more impressive considering they are still in a three way tie for second at 8-3. Win or lose the Zips have done a very solid job defensively although this unit couldn't carry the day in a 57-54 loss at Western Michigan on Wednesday. Despite holding the Broncos to 41% from the floor their own 33% shooting and eight more attempts sealed their fate. Demetrius Treadwell was the only player to crack the ten point barrier with 16 points and 12 rebounds followed by Quincy Diggs and Kwan Cheatham Jr. with 17 points. Although production wasn't plentiful the entire eight man rotation scored.
Akron is the better squad and win but not necessarily easily while Northern Illinois has been a better cover team. I don't see any way the Huskies win but a cover is not entirely out of the question...
