The Line: Manhattan Jaspers -14.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Niagara Purple Eagles and Manhattan Jaspers will meet again for the second time within a week. These teams played one another last Sunday and the Jaspers won a 78-77 thriller that came down to the final seconds.
It’s been the story of the season for the Purple Eagles, as they’ve lost five straight games. During that stretch they’re scoring 71.4 points on 42.9 percent shooting, while the defense is allowing 76.6 points on 47.4 percent shooting. The good news is that four of those five losses were decided by six points or less, but the lack of defense has really made the difference. They are 13-12 ATS overall and 6-8 ATS on the road.

The Jaspers have won four straight and are looking to position themselves nicely in the MAAC with them only a couple of games behind Iona. During their winning streak, they’re averaging 77 points on 47.1 percent shooting, while the defense is allowing 70.6 points on 42.3 percent shooting. At home they average 77.8 points and shoot 44 percent field from the field, while the defense holds opponents to under 40 percent shooting and 68.8 points. They are 10-11-2 ATS and 3-5 ATS at home.
This spread is a little too steep for my taste. Neither team has played great basketball this season and the Jaspers have a losing ATS record at home. Granted, the Purple Eagles are 1-11 SU on the road, but they’ve also been playing in close games all season and just took the Jaspers down to the wire a week ago.
The Purple Eagles are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 meetings against Manhattan.
That’s good enough for me, as there’s no way I can lay the heavy juice on a below-average team.
Give me the road dog and the ton of points, please.
