The 11th ranked Creighton Bluejays look to stay on top in conference play with a tough road test at Marquette Wednesday at 8PM on Fox Sports One.
Creighton did not disappoint this past weekend as they stepped up once again and destroyed Villanova. This time, the Bluejays rode the play of star swingman Doug McDermott and his 39 points to rack up 101 points and make this one a laugher early in the second half. Creighton racked up 18 assists to just 8 turnovers and won the battle on the boards as well. Austin Chapman had a game high 8 assists and the Creighton defense did a good job on defense, forcing the Wildcats into 11 turnovers. Regardless of their defensive play, the Bluejays offense was so efficient and potent, they could of afforded a poor game on defense. The win gives Creighton sole possession of first place in the conference.

Marquette put together another strong offensive showing this past weekend with a strong win over Xavier at home 81-72. The win moved Marquette to 7-5 in conference play. Jake Thomas stepped up big in this one, leading all Golden Eagles with 18 points and Jamil Wilson added 16 for Marquette. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded by 12 but forced 10 steals and controlled the tempo throughout. The Golden Eagles also had 17 team assists to just 5 turnovers -- they are showing their ability to win games as their play has become more and more efficient over the past two weeks. The win was number 3 in a row as the Golden Eagles surge to the end of the season with a tough schedule laying in wait.
Creighton had shown some vulnerability in their games leading up to the Villanova win but it is becoming more and more clear that Villanova is a strong matchup for the Bluejays. I like the Bluejays to come back to earth in this one as Marquette rides the home crowd and hot offensive output to a cover and big time upset win at home. Look for a big game from Gardner and Wilson in this one.
