The Akron Zips host the Ohio Bobcats Saturday with both teams trying to bolster their positions for the playoffs.
This probably sounds strange for a team that is 18-8 but this has been an up and down seaon for the Bobcats in the MAC. It might be because we have become spoiled by Ohio's success in recent years an a number of close games is hard to accept. The Bobcats fell to Western Michigan 73-63 on their own floor Wednesday as the hot shooting Broncos sank half their looks. Ohio saank shots at a respectable 47% but were done in by a 7-25 performance from long range. Top scorer Nick Kellogg dropped 20 points on 4-9 from distance with Maurice Ndour adding 14 points and five boards but production outside of this duo was scarce.

Similar to their counterparts the 2013-14 campaign hasn't been typical Akron basketball although few could argue with the positive results. The Zips have been involved in numerous tight games and were once again Wednesday in a losing effort. Buffalo won on their home floor 96-90 to knock the visitors out of a first place tie in the MAC as the Bulls survived several late charges with torid 63% accuracy leading the way. The Zips hit at a red hot 52% including 10-23 from the perimeter but simply couldn't get stops versus the Bulls who refused to miss. Akron received 21 points and seven pulls from Demetrius Treadwell with Nyles Evans adding 18 followed by Quincy Diggs and Pat Forsythe with 14 and ten points.
I have really looked at this match the last few years and even when Ohio seems like the choice Akron somehow comes up big. If the Zips continue to work their magic here I'll back here right or wrong...
