The Central Florida Knights and Houston Cougars look to get in the win column in Saturday AAC action.
At this point in the season I don't see a whole lot of options for Central Florida who share the conference basement with Temple at 2-11. Obviously getting out of the cellar is doable and winning a few games to build some momentum for the playoffs would be a plus especially if it would help them avoid seeing Cincinnati after the Bearcats delivered a 77-49 beating on Wednesday. This one was over quick with Cincy ahead 40-18 after 20 minutes with only 29.6% shooting to lean on while the visitors checked in at 48% with ten more looks. Isaiah Sykes was the only DD scorer with 13 points and ten rebounds with Calvin Newell and Justin McBride netting eight points each.

Houston won't be cracking the top four in the AAC but after falling to Southern Methodist on the road in a hotly contested 68-64 decision the Mustangs probably hope they've seen the last of the Cougars. SMU won the shooting battle 45%-39% and dominated the backboards 40-28 but needed an 18-12 advantage at the charity stripe to prevail. UH let one slip through their fingers because of a poor 12-20 performance at the line. Jherrod Stiggers scored 16 points to lead the Houston attack which included 4-9 on threes while TaShawn Thomas and Danuel House tossed in 15 points each with Thomas reeling in eight rebounds.
In a conference where half the teams are elite and the other half is fighting for respect we have the latter here. Laying points doesn't seem like a very good idea but my logic says Houston has played their schedule a bit better but this pick still feels dumb...
