The Line: Oklahoma State Cowboys -7.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Storyline: Oklahoma State hopes the return of Marcus Smart will signal the end of its seven-game skid when they host Texas Tech Friday.
The Breakdown: The Cowboys are on the verge of an NCAA tournament snub and may need to win out to get there. Luckily, they’ll get a big chunk of their offense back with the return of sophomore G Marcus Smart from a three-game suspension. Ok State fell to 4-9 for 9th place in the Big 12 after a 70-64 overtime loss to Baylor Monday. The Cowboys shot 37.3 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from outside the arc to the Bears’ 37.7 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from distance. Ok State conceded a 51-36 advantage on the boards and converted 13 of 19 from the free throw line. Senior G Markel Brown scored a game-high 26 points and dished out 6 assists, sophomore G Phil Forte had 20 points, including 4 of 12 from downtown, and junior F Le’Bryan Nash added 6 points. On the season, the Cowboys are averaging 81.2 ppg on 46.8 percent shooting. Smart leads the team with 17.5 ppg, followed by Brown at 17.4 ppg.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech has lost its last two and sits in 7th place in the conference at 5-8. The Red Raiders come in off a narrow 64-63 defeat at #8 Kansas Tuesday, in which they outshot the Jayhawks from the floor 47.1 percent to 45.2 percent and from outside the arc 50.0 percent to 28.6 percent. Tech conceded a slim 28-26 advantage on the boards and converted 9 of 14 from the free throw line. Junior F Jordan Tolbert scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, senior F Dejan Kravic had 13 points, and junior G Robert Turner added 11 points. On the season, the Red Raiders are averaging 71.0 ppg on 46.3 percent shooting. Senior F Jaye Crockett leads the team with 14.6 ppg, followed by Tolbert at 11.0 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this matchup is currently set at -7.5 for Ok State. As we all know, Tech upset the Cowboys at home two weeks ago in a game that cost Ok State much more than its fourth straight loss. The real price was the suspension of Marcus Smart and three more losses. There’s a lot at stake here for both Smart and Ok State, seeing as with every loss the Cowboys’ chances at getting an invite to the NCAA tournament are plummeting right alongside Smart’s NBA Draft stock. Expect Smart to come out with his hair on fire in his first game back, though, resulting in an Ok State cover.
