Meanwhile, Gonzaga dropped to 13-2, but remained in first place after suffering a 73-65 loss to BYU Thursday. The Bulldogs were outshot from the floor 43.9 percent to 40.7 percent and from beyond the arc 28.6 percent to 22.2 percent and conceded a 41-32 advantage on the boards. The Zags converted 17 of 23 from the free throw line, but committed 16 turnovers. Senior C Sam Dower scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, junior G Kevin Pangos had 13 points and 3 assists, and sophomore C Przemek Karnowski added 8 points. Through 28 games, Gonzaga is averaging 77.9 ppg on 49.7 percent shooting. Pangos leads the team with 15.1 ppg, followed by Dower at 14.8 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: Gonzaga is currently a 7-point favorite in this one. The Zags barely survived San Diego 59-56 a month ago at home, not to mention the Toreros are coming off a victory over a Portland team that beat the Bulldogs earlier in the season. The Zags have to be mad as heck that they’re likely to be bounced out of the Top 25 once again in a couple days after their loss to BYU, though, so look for them to cover.
