The Line: Iowa State Cyclones -10 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Storyline: 15th-ranked Iowa State eyes sole possession of second place in the Big 12 and a fourth consecutive win when they welcome West Virginia Wednesday.
The Breakdown: The Cyclones improved to 9-5 in the conference behind a decisive 71-60 victory over TCU Saturday. Senior F DeAndre Kane scored a game-high 20 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, sophomore F Georges Niang had 19 points and 8 boards and senior F Melvin Ejiim added 14 points. Iowa State outshot the Horned Frogs from the field 48.3 percent to 36.7 percent, but struggled from outside the arc, connecting on 1 of 11 to TCU’s 3 of 12. Meanwhile, West Virginia dropped to 7-7 for 6thplace in the Big 12 after suffering an 88-75 home loss to Baylor Saturday, its second straight. The Mountaineers hit 22 of 55 from the
floor and 11 of 21 from beyond the arc to the Bears’ 32 of 59 from the field and 9 of 20 from distance. WVU conceded a 34-31 rebounding edge, but converted 20 of 25 from the free throw line. Sophomore G Eron Harris scored a game-high 32 points and junior G Juwan Staten added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Through 27 games, the Mountaineers are averaging 78.9 ppg on 44.6 percent shooting. Harris leads the team with 18.1 ppg, followed by Staten at 18.0 ppg.
Rick's Pick: The line in this matchup is currently set at -10 for Iowa State. West Virginia opened up a 102-77 can of but whoopin on the Cyclones when these two hooked up a couple weeks ago, interrupting what at the time seemed like Iowa State getting its groove back. The Cyclones have since rattled off three straight, but look for a closer game than the spread as Juwan Staten’s soaring play could be as hard to keep in check as it was last time.
