The Houston Cougars take the hardwood with the Memphis Tigers at Hofheinz Pavilion Thursday night.
Memphis and their #28 offense were put to the test by an unlikely foe in Temple and barely escaped with an 82-79 overtime decision on Saturday night. Both ends of the floor played better then the final score would lead you to believe with the attack burning down the nets at a hefty 57% from the field. The defense limited the dangerous Owls attack to 40.5% accuracy but eleven bombs and and 13 more looks at the basket was a combination the Tigers barely survived. Shaq Goodwin gave Memphis 20 points followed by a 17 point, 12 board effort from Austin Nichols with Joe Jackson and Michael Dixon Jr. netting 12 points each with Geron Johnson chipping with ten.

Houston has played their last four games competively and were rewarded with an 88-84 victory over visiting Central Florida at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars offense has struggled to score at times but this wasn't one of those times with UH sinking shots at a scotching hot 58% that included a 10-16 mark from beyond the arc. Every point was needed with the Knights checking in at 47.7% from the field with eight threes and 17 extra looks keeping this competitive to the final buzzer. Daniel House scored 18 points followed closely by a 17 point effort from Jherrod Stiggers while LJ Rose and TaShawn Thomas netted 12 and eleven points respectively. Nine players scored out of eleven that saw the floor in a very balanced attack.
Some of the big boys haven't been covering against the lower tier teams in the AAC of late but Memphis has fared well in Houston so hopefully they get back to being nasty once again...
