The Long Beach State 49ers visit the Cal State Fullerton Titans Saturday at 9PM on ESPN3.
Long Beach State enters this contest 13-14 on the season but sitting in 2nd place in the conference at 9-4. Junior Guard Mike Caffey leads the 49ers with 16 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game and he is joined by guard Tyler Lamb’s 15 points per game. The 49ers average 36.8 rebounds per game, which ranks 84th nationally. The post is anchored by big man Jennings, who averages 8.2 boards per game. With their narrow win over Hawaii last week,, the 49ers have now won three in a row and find themselves in a good spot as the conference season pushes towards its close.

Cal State Fullerton has struggled mightily this season and their 10-17 record overall and 5-8 record in the conference are testaments to that. The Titans rank in the 200s in most all key statistical categories and have alternated wins and losses over the past two weeks. Most recently, the Titans narrowly escaped Cal State Northridge, 82-81. Michael Williams and his 17.5 points per game lead the Titans offensive attack -- the senior guard has scored 20+ in four of the Titans past 5 games.
These two teams met a few weeks back in Long Beach and the 49ers took down an easy 19 point victory. I think the 49ers are clearly the better team here and guards Caffey and Lamb should get the better of Michael Williams as Long Beach State turns a narrow halftime lead into a comfortable road cover and win Saturday night.
