The New Mexico Lobos hope to extend their winning streak to five games when they visit the Nevada Wolf Pack on Sunday. These teams played a couple of weeks ago, and the Lobos won fairly easily, 90-72.
That win started the current winning streak the Lobos are on, as they’ve also won 10 of their last 11 games. During their little mini winning streak, they’re averaging 70.6 points on 49.1 percent shooting and allowing 60.2 points on 36.8 percent shooting. They consistently shoot a high percentage, play great defense and are averaging less than nine turnovers per game. On the road, they average 74.1 points and allow 67.5 points. They are 12-11 ATS overall and 7-5 ATS on the road.
The Wolf Pack just snapped a five-game losing streak last Saturday against Air Force in a 75-56 victory. Before that win, they were in a freefall, losing six of their last eight games. During their last five matchups, their defense has really struggled, allowing 72 points on 45.4 percent shooting. Offensively, they’ve shot 42.7 percent and averaged 67.2 points, which is five points less than their season average. At home, they average 70.8 points and allow 69.8 points. They are 14-13 ATS overall and 5-8 ATS at home.
There’s no reason to back Nevada in this spot. New Mexico has recently cracked the Top 25 and is quietly emerging as an NCAA Tournament sleeper. The Lobos have also been a covering machine, getting the job done ATS in their last five road games and covering the number in nine of their last 11 games overall. Meanwhile, Nevada is just 1-5 ATS in its last six games.
New Mexico is just too good on both sides of the ball for the Wolf Pack to keep up. The Lobos should easily win by double digits.
