The Xavier Musketeers look to keep their winning streak alive with a visit to the Seton Hall Pirates Monday night at 7PM on Fox Sports One.
Xavier rolls into this one fresh off two solid wins -- one over St. John’s last week and a comfortable victory over #9 Creighton at home this past weekend. Against Creighton, the Musketeers ran out to a double digit lead in the first half and managed to sustain their lead for the rest of the contest. Xavier focused their defensive attention on all players outside of Doug McDermott and the strategy paid off as the Bluejays shot just 39% from the floor and 29% from deep. Semaj Christon led the way for Xavier with 21 points and Justin Martin put forth a mammoth effort on his way to 19 points and 16 rebounds. The win moves Xavier to 20-9 overall and 10-6 in conference play.

Seton Hall fell to Providence this past weekend 74-69. The Friars controlled this contest from the jump but Seton Hall fought hard and fell just short as the clock wound down. Sterling Gibbs returned to full minutes and dropped in 20 to lead the way for the Pirates and Gene Teague chipped in 17 and 12 boards. The Pirates struggled on the defensive end however, allowing Providence to rip off 40% shooting and win the battle on the boards. Seton Hall really hurt themselves late at the line -- in all, they finished just 63.6% from the free throw line. The loss drops the Pirates below .500 and to 5-11 in conference play.
Xavier is on a roll right now after a few weeks of inconsistent play. The Musketeers have been solid on the road of late and have been getting solid production from Justin Martin and Semaj Christon. I look for the aforementioned duo, along with the post presence of Matt Stainbrook to be the difference as Xavier rolls for the cover and road win.
