Storyline: 16th-ranked Iowa State targets second place in the Big 12 when they visit Baylor at the Ferrell Center Tuesday.
The Breakdown: The Cyclones sit in a 4-way tie with Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas State for third place in the conference at 10-6 after falling 80-73 at Kansas State Saturday, despite a game-high 30 points and 16 rebounds from senior F Melvin Ejiim. Senior G DeAndre Kane also had a standout day, finishing with 24 points, 8 boards and 6 assists, but that’s pretty much where the scoring ended as the rest of the team managed just 19 more points on 6 of 35 shooting. Iowa State was outshot from the floor 42.4 percent to 34.8 percent and from outside the arc 36.8 percent to 25.9 percent. Through 28 games, the Cyclones are averaging 83.2 ppg on 47.0 percent shooting. Ejiim leads the team with 18.9 ppg, followed by Kane at 16.6 ppg.

Meanwhile, Baylor improved to 7-9 for 7th place in the conference behind a 59-49 victory over Texas Tech Saturday. The Bears connected on 16 of 53 from the floor and 7 of 31 from downtown to the Red Raiders’ 20 of 42 from the floor and 2 of 11 from distance. Baylor also dominated the glass 40-24 and converted on 20 of 25 from the free throw line. Junior F Royce O’Neal had a game high 16 points and 12 rebounds, senior G Brady Heslip scored 14 points, including 4 of 11 from downtown, and junior G Kenny Cherry added 9 points and 5 assists. On the season, the Bears are averaging 75.1 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting. Senior F Cory Jefferson leads the team with 13.0 ppg, followed by Heslip at 11.4 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this matchup is currently set at -1 for Baylor. Iowa State scored a decisive 87-72 home victory over the Bears a couple months ago then proceeded to drop 4 of their next 5, as did Baylor incidentally. Both have reversed their fortunes lately as well, but the Cyclones have bigger guns, namely Ejiim and Kane. Look for Iowa Sate to bounce back here for the win.
