The Jacksonville Dolphins visit University Center to tangle with the Mercer Bears in an A-Sun quarterfinal bout.
Jacksonville wasn't a top team in the Atlantic Sun and were far from the worse with an 8-10 finish in the conference with wins versus some of the better teams and defeats versus some of the lower squads. The Dolphins can certainly score the basketball but opponents are even better then them as they are outscored 79-75 which explains their record. I would say the Dolphins need more stopping power on defense but it's too late too suddenly stiffen on defense so that means scoring is the best chance for success. Jarvis Haywood leads five capable scorers with 16 points with Keth McDougald averaging 13 with both needing to keep producing if they continue to allow over 48% shooting.

It appeared the Atlantic Sun was Mercer's to win in the final weeks of the season but a 2-2 mark in the last four games left the team in a first place tie with Florida Gulf Coast at 14-4. The Bears have the best combination of scoring and defense in the conference as they have outscored the opposition 79-66 behind 48% shooting with less then 40% marksmanship given up. The Bears sport 12 players that have averaged at least ten minutes per game with Langston Hall (15 ppg) and Daniel Coursey (10 ppg) the only double digit scores which is more then enough with seven others netting between 4-9 points.
I don't see Mercer losing this because they are just too good in all areas. Jacksonville just ended the year with a loss to the Bears so maybe they can do enough to cover...
