The Detroit Titans and Milwaukee Panthers collide in a Horizon opener at the Klotsche Center on Wednesday.
Detroit wasn't penciled in as contender in the Horizon in 2013-14 with very good reason as the talent that made this team a powerhouse a year ago was mostly gone. The Titans were probably more competitive then the experts thought but also a bit erratic at times which was expected. The bottom line however was the Titans MO changed very little from a season ago in that this team needs to score to be successful. The points were tough to come by in losses which cannot happen in the postseason or their stay will be short which means Juwan Howard Jr. (18 ppg) and Evan Bruinsma (12.5 ppg) have to put the ball in the basket.

I thought Milwaukee had a legitimate chance at a top four spot in the Horizon but over the final month or so the Panthers became very streaky with defeats in four of five to close the regular season saddling the team with a fifth place finish at 7-9. What you will notice in this stretch is that the panthers lost by wide margins with wins being reasonably close so it was a bit all or nothing at times. My gut says with four double digit scorers the Titans best chance at winning is to score points but that means Jordan Aaron who just came off of suspension can not exhibit any rust in esentially a win or go home scenario.
I could make an argument for both teams but I don't know if Jordan Aaron is playing so I don't have a firm pick. For now I'll back the points and watch for the lineups and the line...
