The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and Eastern Illinois Panthers will play in the first round of the OVC Tournament. These teams played twice earlier this year, and they split both meetings.
The Redhawks ended their regular season on a four-game winning streak to position themselves nicely for the conference tournament. They’re one of the top offensive teams in the country, averaging a truckload of points, but that also impacts their defense in a negative way. They average 81.1 points on 49.6 percent shooting, but they allow 80.3 points on 45.2 percent shooting. They have seven players averaging at least seven points, and they’ve topped 100 points five times this season. On neutral sites, they average 75.4 points and give up 78.8 points. They are 12-14 ATS overall.

The Panthers are anything but a scoring machine, as they averaged 67.1 points on 43.7 percent shooting and allowed 74.1 points on 46.8 percent shooting. They want to play a game in the high 60s-low 70s, as they shoot only 32.1 percent from beyond the arc and average only 32.3 rebounds. Their best player Sherman Blanford does most of the heavy lifting, as he’s scored 20 or more points six times. The Panthers have not played a neutral site game at all this season. They are 9-16-1 ATS overall.
You hate laying the chalk in a tournament game, but you have no choice. The last thing you want to do is sweat it out when the Redhawks are knocking down shot after shot and pushing the game into the high 80s. Assuming that does happen, the Panthers have no shot of keeping up.
The Redhawks have found their groove lately, scoring at least 83 points in three of their last four games. You can expect that trend to continue in this matchup.
The Redhawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four neutral site games, and the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings between these two teams.
Eat the chalk.
