The Northwestern Wildcats and the Penn State Nittany Lions face off on Thursday in Evanston in Big Ten college basketball.
The Northwestern Wildcats have lost six games in a row and after a promising January, February turned their season into a disaster. Northwestern is 5-11 in the Big Ten and 8-8 at home as they are tied for last place in the Big 10 standings. Drew Crawford leads the Wildcats averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. JerShon Cobb is averaging 12.2 points but is out, Tre Demps is averaging 11.1 points, and Alex Olah is averaging 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. Northwestern is averaging 60 points and they are shooting 39.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.4 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent. Northwestern is just 2-6 in Big Ten home games.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have lost three of their last four games and five of their last seven. Penn State is 5-11 in the Big Ten and 5-7 on the road this season. D.J. Newbill is averaging 17.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to lead the Nittany Lions. Tim Frazier is averaging 15.8 points and 5.6 assists, Brandon Taylor is averaging 9.2 points, and Ross Travis is averaging 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. Penn State is averaging 72.8 points and they are shooting 43.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.5 percent. Penn State is 2-5 in Big Ten road games.
Northwestern is 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games, 1-5 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 3-11 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Penn State is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games at Northwestern, 1-4 against the spread in their last five Thursday games, and 3-8 against the spread following a loss. The underdog is 3-1-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
This game is a coin flip and the spread represents that and while I see Penn State being a little stronger it’s a slight lean to the Wildcats at home to play with emotion and get the win.
