The Texas-El Paso Miners and Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners will meet Thursday night in a matchup that will end their regular seasons. These teams met on January 25, and UTEP won 81-62.
The Miners have taken a little bit of a step back recently, splitting their last six games. During this stretch, they’re averaging 71.6 points on 51.7 percent shooting and are allowing 64.2 points on 38.3 percent shooting. In the games they lost, they failed to score 70 points, which has been the case in eight of their nine losses this season. On the road, they average 66.4 points and allow 59.2 points. They are 17-7 ATS overall and 10-2 ATS on the road.
Beth Hall-USA TODAY Sports
The Roadrunners have lost four straight and eight of their last nine games, as they’ve fallen towards the bottom of the C-USA standings. However, they are playing slightly better basketball, as they took Tulsa to overtime on the road Sunday. They’re allowing teams to shoot 47.8 percent from the field on the season, but that percentage has dropped to 41.7 percent in their last five games. Offensively, they’re averaging 62 points on 39.1 percent shooting. At home, the Roadrunners score 72.8 points and allow 78.1 points. They are 7-13 ATS overall and 4-5 ATS at home.
The Miners have been playing great basketball all season and should win this game fairly easily, but we’re talking about a rivalry game here. We’re also talking about senior night for the Roadrunners, a team that just took Tulsa to overtime on the road.
I think UTSA carries over that confidence in front of its home fans and keeps this game slightly closer than the projected number.
UTSA has four key contributors who are seniors, and they’ll be eager to make this game as close as possible.
Take the points in this one.
