The Vanderbilt Commodores and the LSU Tigers face off on Thursday in Nashville in SEC college basketball.
The Vanderbilt Commodores have lost three of their last four games as they appear to have run out of steam down the stretch. Vandy is 10-5 at home this season, 7-9 in the SEC, and they are in 10th place in the conference standings. Rod Odom leads the Commodores averaging 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Kyle Fuller is averaging 11.4 points, Damian Jones is averaging 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, and James Siakam and Dai-Jon Parker are each averaging 7.6 points. Vanderbilt is averaging 65 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.3 points and their opponents are shooting 40.5 percent. The LSU Tigers have lost two of their last three games and four of their last six as they have slipped into sixth place in the SEC standings. LSU is 8-8 in the SEC and 4-9 away from home. Anthony Bryant III is averaging 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Jordan Mickey is averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, Andre Stringer is averaging 11.6 points, and Jarrell Martin is averaging 10.3 points. LSU is averaging 76.8 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.1 points and their opponents are shooting 41.1 percent. LSU’s recent play will more than likely cost them a NCAA Tournament spot.
Vanderbilt is 19-7 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, 5-1 against the spread after scoring less than 50 points in their previous game, and 2-7 against the spread following a loss by 20 or more points. LSU is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games, 1-6-2 against the spread in their last nine road games, and 1-7-2 against the spread in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record. The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
Vandy has fallen apart of late but LSU as been rotten on the road against the number so taking the Commodores as a home dog looks to be the play.
