The Illinois State Redbirds and Missouri State Bears will meet Friday afternoon in a MVC Tournament matchup. These teams have already played each other twice this season, and they split the series.
The Redbirds head into this matchup losing four of their last seven games. They don’t really do anything special, either. On the season, they averaged 69.4 points on 41.2 percent shooting and allowed 70.2 points on 43 percent shooting. They have three players averaging in double figures, but they lack depth with only seven players participating in all 30 games. On neutral sites, they average 76 points and allow 87 points. They are 12-16 ATS overall.

The Bears have also lost four of their last seven games heading into this matchup. On the season, they averaged 69.8 points on 43.8 percent shooting and allowed 69.4 points on 45.1 percent shooting. Senior forward Jarmar Gulley is the only active player averaging double-digit points. Their lack of scoring has really been their downfall, as nine of their 11 losses this season have come when they’ve scored 69 or less points. On neutral sites, they score 68 points and allow 75 points. They are 13-11 ATS on the season.
The line is spot on with it being a pick’em. Go ahead and flip and coin and make you wager that way.
In all seriousness, these teams are about as even as you’re going to see in the conference tournament. But with that said, I have to go with the Bears. They shoot the ball better and take better care of the basketball, as they average only 11 turnovers per game.
The Bears are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following an ATS loss.
In a pick’em, you always have to go with the better team, and in this case, it’s Missouri State. But not by much.
