The Albany Great Danes begin their quest for back to back conference titles when they duke it out with the UMBC Retrievers in AE quarterfinal action.
Maryland-Baltimore County never found the hot streak they so desperately needed to become a factor in the America East with four straight losses to end the regular season on a downnote and a 5-11 conference record. The numbers rell the story with the Retrievers outscored 72-66 on average with the offense fortunate to break the 60 point barrier at times. With UMBC heading in to the postseason they have to get both ends of the floor on the same page and avoid falling behind early which is exactly the issue they battled all season. Rodney Elliott (15 ppg) does a little of everything and needs to here or I don't like the Retrievers chances.

Defending postseason champion Albany has their work cut out for them in their drive to repeat as conference champs. Too much talent was lost from a year ago although a 4th pllace finish on a 9-7 tecord id commendable given the circumstances. The Great Danes do not stand out offensively and help this unit out by playing it slow in the half court which also milks the clock and shortens the game. The key for Albany is to not change a thing except make shots when the opportunity arises and limist second chance points at the defensive end while hoping Peter Hooley (15 ppg) goes off and has a career night or two.
Both games these two played were very close and most of Albany's games max out at ten points or so. Of course UMBC is not real good so they could be out of this quickly...
