The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Penn State Nittany Lions face off on Sunday at Williams Arena in Big Ten college basketball.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have lost three of their last four games and that run has more than likely cost them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Deandre Mathieu is averaging 11.8 points, Austin Hollins is averaging 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, and Malik Smith is averaging 8.7 points. Minnesota is averaging 1.7 points and they are shooting 44.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.9 points and their opponents are shooting 42.6 percent. Minnesota is tied for seventh place in the Big Ten standings.

Penn State is 6-11 in the Big Ten and 6-7 in games played away from home. D.J. Newbill leads the Nittany Lions averaging 17.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Tim Frazier is averaging 15.6 points and 5.6 rebounds, Brandon Taylor is averaging 9.3 points, and Ross Travis is averaging 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. Penn State is averaging 72.3 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.8 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. Penn State has played well in spots but overall it has been a tough run.
Minnesota is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 1-5-1 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record, and 18-37 against the spread in their last 55 Sunday games. Penn State is 11-5-1 against the spread following a win, 3-1-1 against the spread following a win by 20 or more points, and 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games against Minnesota. The road team is 3-1-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
My free pick in this one is going to be on the total and at 136.5 I like the Over. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as the App.
