The Line: Miami (Ohio) RedHawks -2.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Kent State Golden Flashes and Miami of Ohio RedHawks will square off in the first round of the MAC Tournament on Monday. These teams split the season series, however, the RedHawks just won on March 4, 73-61.
The Golden Flashes head into this matchup losing four of their last five games. Not really a great offensive team, they butter their bread on the defensive side of the ball. They average just 69.3 points on 42.6 percent shooting and allow 69 points on 43.4 percent shooting. They have only two players averaging double-digit points, but they shoot a solid 70 percent from the free throw line as a team and have held 14 opponents under 70 points. The Golden Flashes are 13-15 ATS overall and 9-4 ATS on the road.

The RedHawks are another team that is offensively challenged. They average just 65.5 points on 44.2 percent shooting. They’re not a deep team whatsoever, and they shoot under 30 percent from beyond the arc. Defensively, however, they hold teams to 70.3 points on 46.5 percent shooting. They’ve held three of their last five opponents to 61 or fewer points. On the season, the RedHawks are 15-12 ATS overall and 6-6 ATS on their home court.
This is a tough game to cap considering neither team has been all that consistent, and they both struggle mightily to put points on the board. But the RedHawks just beat the Golden Flashes pretty easily a week ago on the road. That has to count for something.
Kent State is only 5-8 SU on the road, while Miami of Ohio is 7-6 SU on its home court. That’s really the only reason I’m going to back the RedHawks. It’s a tournament game, they’re at home, they should have what it takes to get the win and cover the small chalk.
Take the home team in a toss-up.
