The South Carolina State Bulldogs hope to surprise the Savannah State Tigers in the MEAC playoff opener.
South Carolina State finished in a five way tie for 8th in the MEAC at 5-11 but in reality it was just one game away from the conference basement. Perhaps the end of the regular season saved the Bulldogs from the basement as the team had dropped seven of eight with both ends of the floor struggling. Scoring points and getting stops has not been a strength and the trend we saw from this team to end the year has to be completely turned around in the postseason. Matthew Hezekiah (12.7 ppg, 6 rpg) is the Bulldogs best player but he needs loads of help from his supporting cast.

When opponents take the floor with Savannah State they know they will be in a battle of half court attacks as the Tigers slow things to a crawl looking for a decent shot. That has worked well for them with a 10-6 league mark leading to 5th place finish which was only a game out of the top four. Savannah has been outscored 65-62 but ironically have done extremely well in some higher scoring affairs although those have mostly happened against the lower half of the conference. Deven Williams is the only double digit scorer so this score by committee team has to get production from every member of their eight man rotation.
Even though Savannah State is about as slow as it comes offensively, the South Carolina State defense does present some soring potential so I'm inclined to lay the points...
