The Coppin State Eagles battle the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats with the winner heading to the MEAC quarterfinals.
The bottom half of the MEAC is filled with teams that struggle to put points on the scoreboard and Bethune-Cookman fits that mold. We could argue the Wildcats were the hottest of the lower tiered squads at 5-5 but we are talking about a team that won just seven games. BC was outscored 70-63 so to be successful in the postseason points have to be found somewhere. Mikel Trapp, Clemmye Owens and Malik Jackson each averaged around eleven points and in my view need to do even more and receive help.

Coppin State plays at a little faster pace then many teams in the conference and therefore score more often. Unfortunately so have opponents who have outscored the Eagles 75-69 with the defense really struggling over the last few weeks where CSU dropped five of six to close the resgular season with a disappointing 7-9 conference mark. Coppin State has four dependable scorers on the surface but when looking deeper in to the numbers we see none connects at much better then 41% from the floor while the opposition is sinking shots at a hefty 47% which tells us how this team has struggled.
Coppin scores more and allows more and Bethune-Cookman doesn't sore and allows less. Oh boy...Maybe if the Wildcats hit some shots they can cover but obviously not a game to bet the house on...
