The Northern Illinois Huskies and Eastern Michigan Eagles square off in a MAC quarterfinal bout.
Northern Illinois survived a strong challenge from Bowling Green to upend the Falcons 54-51 in overtime of the opening round of the MAC playoffs. This was close throughout with defense and poor shooting the order of the day with both teams connecting in the 40% range. Not much seperated the two with the Huskies sinking an wetra basket and a few more free throws. Aaric Armstead was the leading scorer with 12 points and five yanks with a 13 point, nine board effort from Jordan Threloff followed by Darrell Bowie and Aaron Armstead with 16 points.

I think Eastern Michigan is sort of flying under the radar at times among some of the bigger names in the conference which says to me that those bigger names better watch out. The Eagles broke open a close game with Central Michigan with a strong second half on the way to a 72-60 decision to gain a spot in the quarterfinals. ENU enjoyed a 47%-39.6% shooting edge which added up to a decisive five more field goals. Karrington Ward pumped in a game high 20 points and snagged eight boards with Daylen Harrison dropping 13 while Ray Lee and Mike Talley netted eleven points apiece with Talley posting eight helpers.
This generally a hard fought and close match up although Eastern Michigan looks very dangerous to me. If I can get history to repeat itself then the points in a close contest is the way to go...
