The Air Force Falcons and Fresno State Bulldogs will meet Wednesday in the first round of the MWC Tournament. These teams met twice earlier in the year, and the Bulldogs won both meetings.
The Falcons have only won six games in the year of 2014 and finished with a 6-12 SU conference record. On the season, they average 66.2 points on 43.5 percent shooting and allow 69.4 points on 43.6 percent shooting. They have four players who average double-digit points, and sophomore guard Tre’ Coggins leads the way with 15.9 points. They’re not a great rebounding team with just 32.3 boards per game, and they shoot only 69.6 percent from the free throw line. The Falcons are 14-10 ATS overall.

The Bulldogs have been one of the hotter teams in the Mountain West, as they finished the season winning eight of their last 10 games. On the season, they average 73.6 points on 44 percent shooting and allow 71.1 points on 43.3 percent shooting. They’re mainly an offensive team that relies on a trio that averages 13-plus points apiece, but it’s their defense that has drastically improved, holding seven of their last 10 opponents under 70 points. The Bulldogs are also a solid free throw shooting team at 72.7 percent. They are 17-11-1 ATS overall.
The Bulldogs won the first meeting by six points and won the last meeting by 17 points. With the way they’ve been playing recently, there’s no reason why they can’t win this matchup once again by double digits. Four of the Falcons last six losses were decided by double digits, as they just don’t have enough scoring depth to compete with teams in this conference.
The Bulldogs are playing with confidence and probably believe that they could win a couple of games in this tournament.
I wouldn’t put it past them, and expect a win on Wednesday by at least 10 points.
