The Fordham Rams and George Mason Patriots will meet Wednesday in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. When these teams played on January 22, the Rams won 76-70.
Since that victory, the Rams have won just one of their last 11 games, going just 2-14 SU in conference play. On the season, the Rams average 71.7 points on 39.6 percent shooting and allow 78.1 points on 46.1 percent shooting. The lack of defense is the reason for the horrible record, as they’ve allowed 80-plus points in 12 games this season. For positives, they average 36.9 rebounds and have one of the best Atlantic 10 scoring duos in Branden Frazier and Jon Severe, a combo that averages 35.6 points. The Rams are 10-13-1 ATS overall.

The Patriots ended the regular season playing some of their best basketball, splitting their last eight games. On the season, they average 69.6 points on 44.2 percent shooting and allow 72.1 points on 44.9 percent shooting. Besides Sherrod Wright and Bryon Allen, who average a combined 31 points, this team can really struggle to put the ball in the hoop. They also have a hard time defending the glass, as they snag just 34 rebounds per game. One of their main positives is that they shoot a solid 71 percent from the free throw line, which has helped them keep games close. The Patriots are 13-14 ATS overall.
Let’s not kid ourselves. There’s a reason both of these programs are playing in the opening round, and it’s not because they were lighting it up during the regular season. And while the Patriots have been getting the job done lately, two of the Rams last three losses have been decided by three or less points, which includes a game against George Washington.
Fordham has a huge advantage on the glass, and I see the Rams keeping this close, if not winning SU.
Give me the points, please.
