The North Texas Mean Green meet the Tulane Green Wave in the CUSA quarterfinals Wednesday.
North Texas entered the opening round of the CUSA playoffs as a six point favorite versus Rice and were fortunate to escape with a 63-62 overtime victory. The Mean Green fell behind early as poor shooting plagued them the entire game with UNT finishing at 34%. Fortunately Rice connected at only 35% with the Mean Green's 21-14 edge at the foul line being decisive. Brandon Walton paced the attack with 17 points with Colin Voss next in line with 16 points and nine rebounds followed by Jordan Williams with eleven points and 14 boards.

Tulane finished 7th in the CUSA with an 8-8 racord while being outscored 70-64. The Green Wave never strung the wins together and avoided losing streaks as this was a win one, lose one type of season. What we see when looking through the schedule is either things are clicking or they are not with little in between and a tendency to win when they should or lose when expected. In my view the Green Wave have to up their scoring to go deep in the postseason to give the defense at least some breathing room and Jonathan Stark, Louis Dabney and Jay Hook are a great offensive trio at a combined 44 points but getting help is the key.
No line out yet but Tulane will be favored and possibly by a few more points after the Mean Green's struggles Tuesday. I need to see a line but I'm already thinking about looking elsewhere...Tulane is actually the dog so I'll take the points but I sure won't bet it.
