The Alcorn State Braves collide with the Alabama State Hornets in SWAC postseason action.
Alcorn State finished in the middle of the pack int the SWAC at 9-9 for 6th place. The Braves are similar to many teams in the conference in that they don't have the big time offense so controlling the scoreboard is a necessity. ASU has been outscored 68-65 on average with a few games getting out of hand but the Braves need strong performances at both ends of the floor to succeed because neither will win on their own merits. If the D holds up their end of the bargain then LeAntwan Luckett (16 ppg) and Octavius Brown (13.7 ppg) have to come up big offensively.

Alabama State was one of the better teams in the SWAC as a second place tie at 12-6 but if not for a late swoon in the last month wher the Hornets dropped four of five this team could have easily won the conference crown. The Hornets were generally consistent offensively at 72 points which was needed with the D giving up 70. Alabama State loses when both ends of the floor have struggled so obviously those situations need to be avoided. If the defense holds up which is not out of the question, the scoring of Jamel Waters (14 ppg) and DeMarcus Robinson (12 ppg) has to come through but the worry is neither shoots 40%.
On paper the numbers tell me go with Alabama State who has the better record and has beaten Alcorn State twice. Hopefully they make it three times but these games are brutal to predict...
