The Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off on Thursday in SEC college basketball tournament action.
The Arkansas Razorbacks went on an 8-2 run to close out the season that they hope lands them in the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas is 10-8 in the SEC and 5-8 in games played away from home. Bobby Portis is averaging 12.4 points and 6.6 rebounds, Michael Qualls is averaging 11.8 points, and Coty Clarke is averaging 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds. Arkansas is averaging 80.6 points and they are shooting 44.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.2 points and their opponents are shooting 40.7 percent. Arkansas has a 58 RPI but a 84 strength of schedule which hurts their NCAA Tournament positioning.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have won three of their last four games including pounding Auburn on Wednesday in their opening round SEC Tournament game. South Carolina is 7-13 in games against SEC teams and 4-12 in games played away from home. Brenton Williams is averaging 15.2 points per game to lead the Gamecocks. Sindarius Thornwell is averaging 13.4 points, Duane Notice is averaging 8.2 points, and Michael Carrera is averaging 6.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. South Carolina is averaging 69 points and they are shooting 41.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.3 points and they are shooting 43.5 percent. South Carolina had a miserable year but with every tourney win it gets better and better for them.
Arkansas is 11-5 against the spread following a loss, 5-13 against the spread in their last 17 neutral site games, and 2-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record. South Carolina is 6-1-1 against the spread following a win, 7-2 against the spread in their last nine neutral site games, and 15-36-2 against the spread in their last 53 games following a game that they didn’t cover the spread.
The total is set at 150 and I see it falling just under that number. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as the App.
