The St. Bonaventure Bonnies and La Salle Explorers will play Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament. These teams played twice earlier in the season and the home team won each meeting.
After getting off to a nice start in the first half of the season, the Bonnies have now lost four straight. They average 74 points on 45.8 percent shooting and allow 70.2 points on 44.3 percent shooting. Senior guard Matthew Wright really does everything for the team, leading the way with 16.7 points and 3.2 assists. They shoot a solid 71.1 percent from the free throw line as a team and average 35.7 rebounds. When clicking, this is a dangerous team but they haven’t won a game since Feb 19. They are 14-14 ATS overall.

The Explorers have a little momentum heading into the tournament, winning three of their last four. They average 67.6 points on 41 percent shooting and allow 67.9 points on 43.2 percent shooting. They’re not a deep team and can go stretches without scoring, but senior guard tandem Tyreek Duren and Tyrone Garland combine for 28.2 points. They also haven’t allowed a 70-point performance in six straight games. They average 35.9 rebounds as a team and shoot 70.9 percent from the free throw line. The Explorers are 7-19-1 ATS overall.
One thing about tournaments is that they give every team a fresh start. The Bonnies will have a chance to forget about those four straight loses and start clean with a win over La Salle.
I think they get it here and cover the small chalk.
In the first win, the Bonnies won by 15 despite shooting just 2-13 from downtown. In the Bonnies loss, La Salle shot 56.5 percent from the field and only won by eight. That shooting performance isn’t happening again.
Go ahead and get the small chalk while you can, the price is only going to go up.
