The Michigan State Spartans and the Northwestern Wildcats face off on Friday in Indianapolis in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Michigan State Spartans struggled down the stretch losing three of their last four games to close out the season. MSU is 12-6 in the Bog Ten and 4-1 in neutral site games. Gary Harris leads the Spartans averaging 17.5 points per game. Adreian Payne is averaging 16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 12.8 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 9.7 points and 8.4 rebounds. Michigan State is averaging 76.2 points and they are shooting 47.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.8 points and their opponents are shooting 40.2 percent. Michigan State finished the season ranked 22nd in the nation.

The Northwestern Wildcats didn’t have a lot to cheer about this season but on Thursday they pulled the upset against Iowa to advance to this round. Northwestern is 7-12 against the Big Ten and 1-2 in neutral site games. Drew Crawford leads the Wildcats averaging 15.5 points and 6.6 rebounds. Tre Demps is averaging 10.9 points and Alex Olah is averaging 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds. Northwestern is averaging 59.5 points and they are shooting 39.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.3 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent. Northwestern lost by five points at Ann Arbor in the last meeting of these two on February 13th.
Michigan State is 5-1 against the spread following a loss, 7-3 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 15-7 against the spread in their last 22 games. Northwestern is 4-10 against the spread following a win, 2-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 4-12 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread.
Michigan State knows how to take care of business in March but this is a ton of points so it is a lean to the underdog.
