The Virginia Cavaliers play the Florida State Seminoles in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament.
The Virginia Cavaliers dropped to 25-6, 16-2 ACC after losing at Maryland 75-69 in overtime on Sunday to complete their regular season schedule. On the season, Malcolm Brogdon is averaging a team-high 12.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Joe Harris is averaging a second-best 11.4 points per game, while Akil Mitchell is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. The Cavaliers are shooting 45.1% from the field while averaging 66.3 points per game as a team this season. Virginia is a good rebounding team, averaging 35.9 boards per game. The Cavaliers were on a roll as they had won thirteen straight games, all in conference play, before losing to Maryland on Sunday. Despite the loss, Virginia secured their first outright ACC regular-season championship in 33 years with the win over Syracuse last week. Virginia went a solid 7-2 on the road in conference play and 3-1 on neutral courts this season.

Florida State defeated Maryland in the 2nd round of the ACC tournament 67-65 yesterday. On the year, sophomore Aaron Thomas leads the Seminoles with 14.1 points per game. Okaro White is averaging a second-best 13.3 points per game while also averaging a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest. Senior Ian Miller is averaging 13.7 points per game as well and he also averages a team-high 3 assists per game. The Seminoles average 71.2 points per game while shooting an impressive 46.5% from the field as a team this season. Florida State is an average rebounding team at best, pulling down 34.9 boards per game. Despite the Seminoles losing six out of their last eleven games; Florida State won three of four games heading into the conference tournament. Florida State is 5-4 on the road in conference play and now 4-1 on neutral courts this season.
Florida State needs a win over Virginia to increase their chances of earning a bid to the NCAA tournament. Unfortuanetly, the Seminoles lost a pair of meetings with Virginia this season, averaging 58 points and shooting 37.8%. Virginia is coming off a loss and will be looking to make a statement in the ACC tournament. Some people are still not taking the Cavaliers seriously and in my opinion if they win the ACC tournament they should earn a #1 seed. I’m rolling with Virginia, the far superior team in this one.
