The Akron Zips collide with the Western Michigan Broncos in the MAC semifinals Friday.
Western Michigan received a bye in to the conference semifinals by virtue of their first place tie with Toledo. Few teams were as consistently strong as the Broncos over the six weeks or so with victories in ten of eleven. WMU was capable at both ends of the floor and when either unit needed to step up, it did. If the defense gives a competitive performance the offense has the weapons to win David Brown (19 ppg) and Shayne Whittingham (16 ppg) giving the Broncos a strong one, two punch offensively.

I have repeated many times that Akron has owned Ohio in recent years so what do I do? Back Ohio and watch them choke away another late lead to the Zips with no defense to be found in an 83-77 defeat on Thursday. Good riddance...I'm tired of them and their inconsistent play. Kudos to Akron with their 50 point second half run erasing a five point half time deficit. Quincy Diggs paced the attack with 20 points with Demetrius Treadwell right on heels with 19 points and eleven rebounds. Reggie McAdams added ten points while the duo of Nyles Evans and Pat Forsythe netted nine points apiece.
No line out yet but Akron might have taken a 1/2 step back and Western Michigan a step forward. Shouldn't be a big line here but the Broncos will be favored so please check back.
