The Providence Friars battle the Creighton Bluejays for the Big East title Saturday night on Fox Sports One.
Providence rolls into the title game playing their best ball of the season after upending a scrappy Seton Hall team 80-74 this evening. Providnce led throughout the contest but never got too far ahead as the Pirates kept it close. LaDontae Henton led the Friars with 26 points and 14 boards and Bryce Cotton played a strong floor game with 18 points and 10 assists, despite 5-14 shooting. Tyler Harris was strong with 17 points and 4 boards and the Friars shot it just under 50% from three and the floor. The Friars have likely played their way into the tournament at this point, but a victory Saturday night would eliminate any potential doubt.

Creighton advanced to the conference final after handling Xavier Friday night. The Bluejays continued to shoot the ball well and raced out to a double digit halftime lead and never relented. Doug McDermott starred once again - the Bluejays leading scorer poured in 32 points and was a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. Ethan Wragge and Austin Chapman combined for 28 as well for Creighton. Once again the Bluejays were super efficient, shooting it 55% from the floor and tallying 18 assists. On D, the Bluejays managed to force just 4 turnovers -- a testament to Xavier who played a pretty solid offensive game but could not match the offensive firepower of Creighton.
These teams met in the season finale a week ago and Creighton handled Providence pretty easily. The Bluejays will need to get more production off their bench if they want to take down the big east title in their inaugural year in the conference. I like Creighton to take down the title with another big showng from the nation’s MVP in McDermott but I expect Providence to keep this close -- Creighton with the win and Providence with the narrow cover Saturday night. Check back for the line.
