The Columbia Lions visit the Athletics-Recreation Center to tangle with the Valparaiso Crusaders in a CIT first rounder.
Valparaiso was really dominant in the Horizon a year ago but tno repeat was expected with a good chunk of their production gone via graduation. However, that doesn't mean the cupboard was bare with the Crusaders coming through with a 4th place finish at 9-7 that looked even better before a 2-4 finish to the regular season that was capped off by a loss to Milwaukee in the playoffs. The final numbers were great with Valpo outscoring teams 72-67 ans allowing opponents to hit at 39%. The problem was the offense that connected at 47% didn't see 60 points in four of the last six games. LaVonte Dority (16 ppg) and Alec Peters (13.7 ppg) will be under the microscope going forward.

Columbia had a break through season of sorts with 19 wins and an 8-6 record in the Ivy League which was good for third. The conference still belonged to Harvard with the Crimson sweeping the Lions who were also swept by struggling Penn which cost them second. The final numbers for this team says they averaged around 68 points and allowed under 64 but the attack failed to reach that number in 7-12 to end the year which was too much pressure for the defense to bare. The defense can't give up more then 65 points or so and Alex Rosenberg (16 ppg) and Maodo Lo (14.5 pg) have to score and get some help.
What I have noticed from each team is their scoring has tailed off as the season drew to a close. That has me looking at a possible under here with both playing capable defense...
