The Toledo Rockets travel south to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles Wednesday night at 8:30PM on ESPN3.
Toledo finished the regular season a rock solid 27-6, but failed to win their conference tournament and did not have the resume to warrant bubble attention. The Rockets were 14-4 in the MAC and were dominated by 20+ by Western Michigan in the MAC title game. Julian Brown and Rian Pearson combine to lead the Rockets with just over 28PPG. The duo also leads the team in rebounds (Pearson 6.7) and assists (Brown 6.1). The Rockets rank 28th nationall with 79.6 points per game and also average 15.1 team assists per game -- good for 42nd nationally.

Southern Miss also sits at 27-6 and saw their seven game winning streak come to an end with an 18 point loss to Louisiana Tech in the conference tournament. Southern Miss is a balanced squad with contributions across the board on the starting five. Michael Craig leads the Golden Eagles with 11 points and nearly 7 boards per game. The rest of the Southern Miss starting five all average right around 10 points as well and all are capable of showing out from night to night. The Golden Eagles will have to play solid defense to keep Toledo from scoring the ball -- an issue they have had all year long.
Southern Miss is strong at home but the Rockets have a potent offense and the Golden Eagles have struggled with similar squads this season. Look for this one to come down to the wire and the Rockets outside shooting to be the difference as Brown and Pearson fuel the Rockets to a big road win and advancement to the 2nd round.
