After the Albany Great Danes beat the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers in the play in game, they’ll get their shot Thursday against the Florida Gators in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Albany won the America East Conference, while Florida won the SEC.
Albany is a slow paced team that wants to keep the game in the 60s if at all possible. Albany only averages 66.2 points on 44.3 percent shooting, but it holds opponents to 63.8 points on 41.7 percent shooting. One of the Great Danes’ biggest strengths is their free throw shooting at 74.8 percent. Albany is led by sophomore guard Peter Hooley, who averages 15.7 points and 2.6 assists. The Florida Gators are one of the national championship favorites, as they don’t have many weaknesses. The Gators average 70.7 points on 46.2 percent shooting and allow 57.9 points on 39.9 percent shooting. Florida is an experienced team that starts four seniors and is led by Casey Prather, who averages 14.2 points and 5 rebounds. The Gators shoot 66.6 percent from the free throw line and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc. Defensively, Florida hasn’t allowed more than 65 points in its last seven games. The Florida Gators are 16-13-1 ATS overall this season.
Albany simply doesn’t have enough offensive firepower to keep this remotely close. Expect this to be your typical 1 vs. 16 seed blowout, as the Gators should win by at least 25 points.
