The Dayton Flyers and the Ohio State Buckeyes meet in 6-11 action from from Buffalo Thursday at 12:15PM on CBS.
Dayton enters the dance at 23-10 overall and 10-6 in A-10 play. The Flyers fell to St. Joe’s by three in the conference tournament this past weekend. The Flyers finished sixth at the end of the regular season in arguably the best A-10 league in a decade or so. Dayton is led in productivity by senior forward Devin Oliver. Oliver is second on the team in scoring with 12.1 points per game and leads the team in boards with 7.5 and is 2nd in assists with 2.9. The Flyers broke a four game losing streak in conference by getting hot down the stretch and finishing the season winners of 10 of 12 and they will look to find their groove on a big stage against the in-state rival Buckeyes on Thursday.

Ohio State had what many would consider a disappointing season, sitting at 25-9 and 10-8 in Big Ten play. After shooting up the rankings and hovering around the top 3 for the first ? of the season, the Buckeyes hit on hard times and missed the veteran scoring leadership that they got last year from Deshaun Thomas. Laqunton Ross leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 15.4 points per game and Aaron Craft is one of the best point guards in the country. Craft averages just under 5 assists per game and is arguably the best on ball defender in the nation. The Buckeyes have the talent to make a deep run in the tournament but will need to hit on all cylinders offensively if they want to make a run.
This game is intriguing as these two teams are not separated by much distance and are polar opposites as Dayton likes to score the ball and is strong offensively and the Buckeyes are slow paced and prefer to key in on the defensive side of the ball. While I like to pick the upset, the Buckeyes feature an experienced core that has been on this stage before. I like the Buckeyes to win this one with strong defense down the stretch as they pull away for the late covera and advance to Saturday play.
