The Milwaukee Panthers and the Villanova Wildcats battle in 2-15 action Thursday from Buffalo, NY at 9:25PM on TBS.
The Panthers enter the big dance as Horizon champions after upending Wright State 69-63. The Panthers are winners of five straight and are certainly playing their best ball at the right time. Milwaukee is led in scoring by senior guard Jordan Aaron. The speedy guard averages 15 points per game and just under 3 assists. He is joined in the backcourt by junior Steve McWhorter. McWhorter a averages 8 points per game but leads the team in assists with 4 per game and averages 4 boards as well. The Panthers will need strong games from their backcourt if they want any shot at getting past Villanova.
The Wildcats will enter post season play with a full week to dwell on a buzzer beater loss to Seton Hall in the second round of the big east tourney. Villanova is a very deep team and are led by a trio of bulky swing men in Jayvaughn Pinkston (14.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg), James Bell (14.5 ppg, 6.1rpg) and most recently Darrun Hilliard (14.3 ppg). Hilliard has been red hot from late from deep and the Wildcats go deep into their bench to help fuel their strong offensive attack.
Villanova had been the model of consistency all season and I do not see that changing in this one. I expect to see a mad Nova squad and like this one to be out of reach by the break. The depth and physicality of the Wildcats will be the difference in this one as Nova coasts to the cover and the win behind 15+ from Bell and Hilliard.
