The Line: Wichita State Shockers -2.5 -- Over/Under: 134 See the Latest Odds
The Kentucky Wildcats and the Wichita State Shockers face off on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
The Kentucky Wildcats started the season ranked number one in the nation but instead of it being a cakewalk to a number one seed in March Madness, the season was a learning experience. Despite their ups and downs, UK got past Kansas State in the first round with a seven-point win. Julius Randle led the Wildcats scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the win. Aaron Harrison had 18 points and Andrew Harrison and James Young had seven points each. Kentucky shot just 38 percent from the field going 42.8 percent on their 2-point attempt and 26.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Kentucky also hit just 66.7 percent of their free throws. Kentucky won Friday’s game by winning the battle of the boards, they are going to need more in this one if they plan on a winning result.
The Wichita State Shockers ran their record to 35-0 for the season with an easy first round win over a Cal-Poly team who was the only team to get into the tournament this season with a losing record. Despite making the Final Four last season and their impressive run, Wichita State still doesn’t seem to get the respect and their effort on Friday was solid but in general the competition will be questioned once again. Cleanthony Early scored 23 points to lead the Shockers in scoring and he grabbed seven rebounds. Ron Baker scored seven points and had nine rebounds and Chadrick Lufile scored eight points. Wichita State shot 46 percent from the field including 54.8 percent from two-point territory and 31.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc. WSU shot just 57.1 percent from the free throw line something Kentucky will surely take note of.
Kentucky is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six NCAA Tournament games, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four neutral site games. Wichita State is 6-0 against the spread in their last six NCAA Tournament games, 19-6-1 against the spread in their last 26 non-conference games, and 7-3 against the spread against the SEC.
The total is at 134 but with both of these teams struggling at the free throw line I don’t see it getting past that number so my free play is on the under.
My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
