Ivy League rivals the Yale Bulldogs battle the Columbia Lions in a CIT quarterfinal bout on Wednesday.
Yale really struggled to close the regular season with defeats in four of five but have won a pair of opening round games in the CIT to reach the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs used great shooting and some tough defense to upend Holy Cross 71-66 in round two. Yale rode 55% marksmanship and a 6-9 mark on threes to outdistance the 43% shooting Crusaders who led by three at the break. Justin Sears paced the offense with 18 points and blocked five shots with Javier Duren tossing in 13 while Matt Townsend and Jack Montague combined for 15 points.

Columbia dropped two of three to end the year but won back to back games in the CIT to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals. The Lions impressive second half run broke open a tie game leading to a 69-56 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Lions sank half their shots including 10-21 from long range while limiting the Eagles to only 40% accuracy which negated eight more EMU looks. Alex Rosenberg and Maodo Lo paced a balanced attack with 15 points each with Rosenberg handing out seven assists followed by Steve Frankoski and Cory Osetkowski combined for 21 points with the latter grabbing seven rebounds.
Each team won by double figures on their own floor and the spread is typical of this match up through the years. Columbia has looked better in the CIT and has blow out potential but I am drawn to the points and will likely sit this one out...
