The San Diego Aztecs face the Arizona Wildcats for the second time with a spot in the Elite Eight on the line.
I am not surprised San Diego State is still alive in the NCAA's because good defense always gives you a chance. I was surprised New Mexico State took them to overtime in the first round however but the Aztecs bounced back nicely to throttle the high powered offense of North Dakota State 63-44. The Bison were in trouble with only 23 first half points and their 32% shooting they were simple dead in the water. That made the Aztecs 43% accuracy and 7-16 mark from distance an easy winner. Xaver Thames was unstoppable with 30 points and five assists with Dwayne Polee II following with 15 points and six yanks.

Arizona looked like the number one team in the country in their 84-61 rout of Gonzaga in round two which was in stark contrast to their 68-59 opening round victory over Weber State where the team seemed to stop playing late. The Wildcats jumped on the Zags early with a 13 point lead after 20 minutes and kept their foot on the gas until the final buzzer. The defense held the Bulldogs to 40% from the field and forced 21 turnovers while connecting at 49% and totaling eleven more shots. Aaron Gordon and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson neted 18 points each with eleven boards followed by Nick Johnson with 17 followed TJ McConnell and Gabe York with 12 and eleven points.
This is all about whether the San Diego State defense can control the Wildcats attack while making a few shots at the offensive end. I'm taking the points and will update by game day...
