Two unlikely teams shoot for an Elite Eight appearance when the #11 Dayton Flyers battle the #10 Stanford Cardinal.
Dayton has survived by the skin on their teeth thus far with a pair of victories by the grand total of three points. The Flyers upset Ohio State in the final seconds and did much the same in a 55-53 decision over Syracuse but at this point winning is the only thing that matters. Defense and the half court ruled the win over the Orange with both teams combining for 100 shots. UD held a slight shooting edge 41%-39% with seven bombs winning out over an 0-10 mark from distance for Syracuse. Dyshawn Pierre led the offense with 14 points and six yanks with Jordan Sibert and Vee Sanford adding ten and eight points.

I don't know if Stanford garnered a ton of respect during the regular season but advancing to the Sweet 16 tends to open eyes. A five point win over a decent New Mexico to open the tournament wasn't shocking but knocking off Kansas in the Field of 32 made people stand up and take notice. The Cardinal took an eight point lead in to the break and held off a late Jayhawks rally for a 60-57 decision behind nearly 45% shooting in the halfcourt while limiting KU to 33%. A few more field goals and free throws offset eleven more looks at the basket for Kansas. Dwight Powell led four DD scorers with 15 points and seven yanks with Chasson Randle adding 13 points and seven steals followed by Anthony Brown and Stefan Nastic with ten points each.
This is a really interesting match up and in my heart I want Dayton to win but am undecided. Instead I'll go with the over and dwell on this longer...
