The Dayton Flyers play the Florida Gators in the Elite Eight on Saturday evening.
The Dayton Flyers defeated the Stanford Cardinal 82-72 to advance to the Elite Eight on Saturday. The Flyers upset Ohio State in the 2nd round and Syracuse in the 3rd round of the tournament and they have now won thirteen out of their last fifteen games overall. On the season, Jordan Sibert leads the Flyers in scoring with 12.5 points per game, while Devin Oliver is a close second with 12.1 points per contest. Oliver also averages a team-high 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Dayton is averaging 73.4 points per game while shooting 46.6% from the field as a team this year. Defensively, the Flyers are allowing only 67 points per game this season, while holding Ohio State to 59 points and Syracuse to 53 last weekend. Dayton lost to St. Joe’s in the conference championship after winning four in a row and ten of eleven overall.

The Florida Gators beat UCLA 79-68 in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night. Florida is led by Scottie Wilbekin, the SEC player of the year, who scored 13 points and dished out 3 assists in the win over the Bruins. Wilbekin was coming off an impressive all-around game against Pittsburgh in the 3rd round when he scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half. The Gators, who rank second in the nation in defensive efficiency, returned to form against Pittsburgh after a lackluster 67-55 win over 16th-seeded Albany in the second round. The Gators gave up 68 points to the Bruins, but they took advantage of their frontcourt with forward Will Yeguete and SEC defensive player of the year Patric Young leading the way and out rebounding UCLA 40-30. The Gators have won 29 straight games and look like a championship team right now.
Dayton has made a great run in the NCAA Tournament and they have done it with a great team effort. The Flyers are deep and they have players come off the bench looking to contribute in a big way. However, they are going to be overmatched in this game by a much more talented, experienced, and physical team than they have seen all tournament. Florida is the best team in the country and I think they pull away late in this one to win by double-digits.
