The Clemson Tigers and SMU Mustangs will play Tuesday in an NIT semifinal.
Clemson has made it this far in the tournament with wins over Georgia State, Illinois and Belmont. On the season, the Clemson Tigers average 63.7 points on 42.5 percent shooting and allow 58.2 points on 39.3 percent shooting. Clemson butters its bread defensively, as the Tigers have held 14 of their last 16 opponents to 68 or less points. Clemson is offensively challenged, but does have a player in K.J. McDaniels, who averages 17.2 points and 7.1 rebounds. McDaniels has scored 20-plus points in four of his last five games. The Clemson Tigers are 15-12-3 ATS overall this season.

SMU reached the semifinals by defeating UC Irvine, LSU and California. On the season, the SMU Mustangs average 71.4 points on 48.4 percent shooting and allow 62.3 points on 38.2 percent shooting. Much like Clemson, SMU relies on defense, as the Mustangs have held eight of their last nine opponents to 68 or less points. However, SMU has a lot more balanced offense, shooting 38.2 percent from downtown. The Mustangs are led by Nic Moore, who averages 13.5 points per game and 4.9 assists. The SMU Mustangs are 19-12 ATS overall.
The Tigers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games. The Mustangs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games overall.
This should be a terrific basketball game that comes down to the wire, but SMU is by far the more complete team and usually plays even better in the second half of games. Look for the Mustangs to pull away in the second half and cover the number.
