The Connecticut Huskies and the Florida Gators meet in the first final four contest Saturday night at 6:09PM on TBS.
UConn surged into final 4 play with a big time win over Michigan State this past weekend. The Huskies rode the hot hand of Shabazz Napier and strong foul shooting team-wide to the national semifinals after buckling up on defense late and holding on for the 60-54 win. Napier led all scorers with 25 points and 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Napier was a perfect 9-9 at the stripe and knocked down numerous crucial free throws in the late minutes. UConn finished the game 21-22 at the stripe and continue to shoot lights out from the line - a key statistic for a team that is not as deep as others at key positions. DeAndre Daniels added 12 and 8 and the UConn defense held Michigan State to 37% shooting from the floor and forced them into 16 total turnovers.

Florida moved into the final 4 after making fairly easy work of a cinderella Dayton team from wire to wire this past Saturday. Florida broke open a close game with about 8 minutes left in the first half and pushed out to a 38-24 halftime lead and their lead was never in jeopardy afterwards. Scottie Wilbekin led the way for the Gators from the point guard slot with 23 points and 3 assists. Patric Young added 12 and 6 and Michael Frazier added 10. Wilbekin was also a solid 8-10 at the line. The Gators got just 7 points off the bench and they will need way more production from their reserves against UConn. Dorian Finney-Smith will be an ex-factor off the bench for Florida Saturday night.
Florida is the best team in the country and have not lost since falling to this same UConn squad in December in Storrs. While Florida is the deeper team, they lack a true natural scorer with ice in their veins like the Huskies have in Napier. I like Shabazz to not disappoint and be in his top form on the biggest possible stage but for Florida’s experienced starters to pull away for the victory late. Despite the Gator win, I like the Huskies to pull off the cover in a narrow defeat.
