The Kentucky Wildcats and the Connecticut Huskies square off for the National Championship on Monday.
Another game on the line in the closing seconds and another Aaron Harrison three wins it. Michigan felt the pain of a Harrison bomb in a 75-72 loss in the Elite Eight and it was Wisconsin's turn in the Final Four when he drilled another with five ticks left in a 74-73 nailbiter. In a close game there are so many things that factor in to winning or losing but the things that jump out at me is the Wildcats holding Frank Kaminsky to eight points on 4-7 and only four turnovers. Kentucky's 50% shooting and eight more shots were important factors as well with plenty of contributors. James Young tossed in 17 points to lead all scorers with Julius Randle netting 16 and Dakari Johnson ten with the trio combining for 17 boards.

Connecticut made the championship game by knocking off Florida 63-53 as a seven point underdog. Surprising? I guess since the Huskies had already beaten the top overall seed early in the season and the Gators were a stronger team this time around. It appeared UF was going to run away with this as they jumped to an early double figure lead lead only to trail 25-22 at the half and never were able to get the lead back as UConn had an answer for every big play the top seed made. The Huskies burned the tough UF defense with 55.8% shooting and held their offense to 38.8% including 1-10 on threes. The key to the upset was DeAndre Daniels who pumped in a game high 20 points and grabbed ten rebpunds while playing 40 minutes. Ryan Boatright and Shabazz Napier added 13 and 12 points with Niels Giffey chipping in with eleven points.
Kentucky has had a flare for the dramatic while Connecticut has been almost workman like in making big plays down the stretch while making free throw after free throw. I like the Huskies and their ability to make plays for a full 40 minutes so the points are the way to go for me...
